As a sophomore in high school I began experiencing lower back problems. I was, and still am, an athlete. Naturally the pain affected my performance. Over a two year span, I saw doctors, chiropractors, physical therapists, and sports medicine specialists. None of these practices worked, I found myself at a neurosurgeon. After a multitude of tests, I was told that I had spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal canal, in all five of my lumbar vertebrae. According to the doctor, this was something typically experienced by older men, that it would require surgery, and to come back when I could no longer stand the pain and they would perform said surgery. About three years later, I returned and had the surgery. For the next 10 years, I was relatively free of pain and discomfort and able to enjoy being active once again.
Flash forward those ten years, I was three years into my my pursuit of a black belt at a Dallas, TX Kung Fu school when I begin to experience back problems again. It starts out as stiffness and soon leads to loss of flexibility, sciatic numbness, and pain. Within a year I was in constant, sometimes debilitating pain and had almost completely stop training. I didn't want to go through surgery again so I looked for relief elsewhere. Being in Dallas, I found that I had many alternative options. I started with chiropractic and massage therapy, and before it was all said and done, I had tried acupuncture, acupressure, myofascial release, neuromuscular therapy, crainiosacral therapy, and cold laser, all with varying degrees of success before I found Rolfing®. Rolfing® was the first therapy that gave me lasting results and goals that considered the body as a whole.
Having known nothing about Rolfing® before I went through the process, and finding that few people that I knew or talked to knew anything about Rolfing®, I saw an opportunity to change career paths and pursue a field that could benefit and educate many people of all types and back rounds. Thus began my path to becoming a Rolfer®.
Now fast forward, I opened Front Street Rolfing & Healing Arts where clients can receive alternative therapies that alleviate pain, stress, and muscle tension. Using Rolfer® structural integration techniques, our Certified Rolfer® performs deep tissue manipulation, which in turn realigns the body and relieves muscular tension. Rolfer® also allows us to dive deeper into the root of your discomfort, allowing your symptoms to stay away for good.
